10-year-old girl shot in Port of Spain

A 10-year-old girl is fighting for her life after she was shot in the back at the corner of Duncan Street and Independence Square, on Monday.

The incident occurred around 4:30 pm.

Police say the child's relative picked her up from school after which, they were seated in the parked car.

A gunman approached and opened fire from behind, shooting at the car eight times.

The driver sped off, taking the child to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

Last week, three children were shot after a hail of gunfire was unleashed on a Hilux by gunmen on Belmont Circular Road, Port-of-Spain.

At the end of May, an 8-year-old girl was shot to the buttocks in Laventille.

She was discharged after being treated at hospital.
