103 food card workers contracts to expire

Contract workers attached to the Targeted Conditional Cash Transfer Programme (Food Card Programme) have not been terminated or retrenched.

The Social Development and Family Services Ministry again denied media reports which indicated that 200 employees were sent home, and restated that the contracts of 103 of those employees would expire July 31, 2017.

The Ministry said the affected employees were formally notified of the impending expiration of their three-year contracts, and reminded of the need to ensure that Performance Appraisal Reports are completed, in keeping with established practices.

Finalisation and sign off of the Performance Appraisal Report by the Permanent Secretary is a requirement for finalisation and payment of the contract gratuity, it added.

The Food Support Programme will be administered by the Social Welfare Division through the Ministry’s 14 regional offices from August 1, 2017.

The Ministry said the move will ensure a more holistic, integrated and effective approach to the delivery of its grants and services.

The assurance was again given that there would be no interruption in, or discontinuation of payments to eligible Food Card recipients.
