11 held by police, firearm seized in La Horquetta

Eleven persons, including a woman who is a close relative of a senior police officer, were detained in La Horquetta on Friday morning.

The exercise was supervised by ACP McDonald Jacob and Senior Superintendent Paul, and was supervised by Inspector Boodoo.

It involved officers of the La Horquetta CID and the La Horquetta Crime Patrol Unit.

During the exercise, the officers received information that a group of persons were seen playing with a firearm at Rocky McLaughlin Circular, Phase 4, La Horquetta.

The officers made their way to the location, and they observed four men and three women in the area.

The men appeared to be passing around a firearm among each other.

The group was challenged and the officers allegedly found and seized a chrome and black Smith and Wesson Pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition.

The four men, LoopTT was told, are expected to be charged with possession of the illegal items.

However, no decision has yet been made on what will happen to the three women who were in the area.

PC Singh is continuing inquiries.

Four other persons were held on a series of inquiries with two men, aged 18, 21 and 37, being held in relation to enquiries into allegations of assault and larceny, while an 18-year-old was held on other enquiries.

Another man was held in relation to allegations of assaulting a police officer, malicious damage, obscene language and disorderly behaviour.

More on this as it becomes available.
