13 held in connection with shootings

Police said they have detained 13 suspects in connection with shooting-related offences.

According to a statement issued Friday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Station (TTPS) said 13 men were held during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Port of Spain district on Friday morning.

The exercise, which was conducted between 2:00 am and 7:00 am on July 19, involved officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force Strike Team and the Besson Street Criminal Investigations Department.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to the George Street Plannings, where several apartments were searched and eight men, ages 20 to 30 years, were arrested in connection with shooting offences.

The officers then proceeded to the Laventille district, where three men, ages 20 to 30 years, and all of Eastern Quarry, were also held in connection with shooting offences.

Two other Laventille men were also held on enquiries after officers conducted searches at their homes.

Investigations are ongoing.
