First public holiday for the First Peoples

There will be a one-off holiday on Friday 13 October 2017 to commemorate the First Peoples of Trinidad and Tobago.

The announcement was made via a statement from the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts.

The statement said the First Peoples “have been calling for greater recognition of their history and customs”.

The Ministry says it remains committed to building resilient, dynamic, culturally diverse communities and respect and recognition for our indigenous heritage is a fundamental part of that mandate.
