14-yr-old identified as 'bandit' shot dead by police
A 14-year-old boy was one of two suspected thieves killed on Wednesday morning in Couva following a confrontation with police.
The deceased have been identified as Kevon Simmons, of Concerned Citizens Street in California, and 23-year-old Curtis James, of Cipero Road, San Fernando.
The two were killed during an exchange of gunfire on Wednesday morning at Parriag/Tianna’s Jewellers located along the Southern Main Road, Couva.
According to police reports, at about 5:25 am yesterday, officers of the Central Division Task Force and the Couva Police Station, responded to a report of a break in. When the officers arrived, they soon realised that the thieves were still in the washroom area of the store.
The officers confronted the men and ordered them to surrender.
However, one of the men, LoopTT was told, allegedly pulled out a firearm and began shooting at the police. The lawmen, in response, pulled out their licensed firearms and shot back at the attacker.
When the exchanged ceased, the two suspects had been shot multiple times. Officers were uninjured.
Police seized a loaded .38mm pistol from the scene, as well as a bag containing jewellery.
The injured were rushed to the Couva District Hospital, where they eventually succumbed to their injuries.
