$160k bail for two Rio Claro men on gun and ammo charges
Two men were each granted $80,000 bail when they appeared before a Rio Claro Magistrate jointly charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.
20-year-old Keston John and 18-year-old Brandon Lezama, both of Rio Claro, appeared before Indira Misir-Gosine to answer to the charges on Friday.
They pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the offences and were granted bail with surety.
The matter was postponed to Monday.
According to a statement issued by the TTPS, both men were arrested by officers of the Eastern Division during an anti-crime exercise in Rio Claro between 3 and 9 am on Thursday.
During the exercise, officers executed a search warrant at the home of the accused.
A search resulted in two homemade shotguns and two 12-gauge cartridges being found hidden under a bed in the house.
John and Lezama were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the find.
PC Vijay Roopnarine, of the Rio Claro CID, laid the charges.
The exercise was supervised by acting Sgts Navin Maharaj and Rampersad Mahabir and included officers of the Rio Claro Criminal Investigations Department, Task Force, Crime Patrol, Warrant Staff and Canine Unit.
