$16K fine for firearm, ammo possession

A 38-year-old electrical contractor, who was held with a .38mm revolver and 14 rounds of ammunition, has been fined $16,000.

Kelon McAlpin appeared before the Arima Magistrates’ First Court yesterday where the charges were laid against him.

PC Kokeran of the San Raphael Police Station was the charging officer.

McAlpin pled guilty to the offences and after submissions were made to the court, he was fined.

The 38-year-old man was held on July 29 at his home along the Talparo Main Road, Talparo.

At about 10 pm that day a team of officers from the San Raphael Police Station received intelligence which led them to execute a search warrant for arms and ammunition.

The gun and ammunition were found in a cupboard in the bedroom of the house.

Also involved in the operation were W/Cpl Thomas, PC Garcia, PC Hinds, and officers of the La Horquetta Crime Patrol led by PC Frankly, WPC Gibson, PC Branker and PC Chadee.
