18 Venezuelans held in Carenage

Police operations in Carenage on Wednesday morning resulted in the detention of 18 Venezuelan nationals.

The individuals were held near Smith Hill, Carenage.

They were held by officers of the Western Division, under the supervision of Snr Sup Mark, shortly after they disembarked a pirogue around 5.30 am.

Among the group were three children, six women, and nine men.

Officials from the immigration department were contacted and are said to be interviewing the group.

From initial information, it is believed that the 18 individuals came from the Tucupita and Guiria communities.
