19-year-old charged with trafficking, threatening a police officer

A 19-year-old man was expected to appear before San Fernando Magistrate on Monday after he threatened a police officer.

According to police reports, around 7 am on Sunday, PC Coomansingh and PC Seedan were conducting routine patrols in Debe, when they observed a man pointing at them.

The man pointed to PC Seedan and recognised him as being one of the prosecutors who worked at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court.

According to police, the suspect then loudly threatened to kill the police constable.

This prompted the response of the officers who detained and searched the suspect.

In the front pocket of his pants, the officers found and seized a small quantity of marijuana.

Because the arrest was made within 500 meters of the Parvati Hindu School, along SS Erin Road, Debe, the suspect was held and charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking.

The suspect also faces charges of threatening a police officer, and for attempting to escape lawful custody.

PC Coomansingh is continuing inquiries.
