$20 million in ganja destroyed in Guaico Tamana

Even as government continues to hold public consultations on the decriminalisation of marijuana, the plant continues to be destroyed - the latest seizure was valued at TT$20 million.

According to a statement issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), marijuana trees worth an estimated TT$20 million were destroyed by officers of the Northern Division during a marijuana eradication exercise conducted in the Guaico Tamana district between 11:00 am and 10:00 pm on April 8, 2019.

During the exercise, officers proceeded three miles into the Guaico Tamana forest where they discovered approximately 20,000 fully grown marijuana trees along with 10 kilogrammes of dried marijuana trees.

The trees were subsequently destroyed.

During the exercise, officers also discovered one homemade shotgun hidden inside a black garbage bag in a bushy area off Jubilee Street.

Investigations are ongoing.
