$200K bail for man charged with sex crimes against teenage daughter
A 45-year-old Valencia man appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate on Monday having been arrested and charged for sexually assaulting his 16-year-old daughter over a four-year period.
The man’s name will be withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.
According to reports, the teenage girl ran away from home after an argument with her mother.
Police were contacted and when she was found she refused to return to the house.
The girl told investigating officers about the ordeal she suffered since she was 12-years-old. She claimed that over the years she was given pills by her father who told her he wanted to heighten the sexual experience. In the absence of forensic testing, this cannot be confirmed.
The girl also alleged that her father told her that he wanted to teach her how to be a woman.
She informed police that she sought advice from a friend who encouraged her to record one of the incidents.
The video is currently being reviewed by the cybercrime unit of the TTPS.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday and was subsequently charged on Sunday with four counts of abuse of positions of trust and familial relationships and three counts of incest.
He was granted $200,000 bail and was ordered to stay 100 metres away from the victim.
WPC Hercules-Valere of the Eastern Division of the Child Protection Unit conducted inquiries which led to the arrest.
The accused will reappear in court on July 16.
