$200K in items stolen from Ministry office, 2 held
Two El Socorro men were arrested and approximately $200,000 worth of items which were stolen from the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Highways Division over the weekend were recovered by police on Monday.
According to a statement by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers of the Morvant and Barataria Criminal Investigations Departments carried out an anti-crime exercise on Monday when the seizures and arrests were made.
Police were told that employees at the Ministry’s office secured the premises on Friday 23rd November, 2018 and went away.
When they returned on November 26, 2018, they discovered a quantity of mini-appliances, accessories, and other electronic items missing.
A report was made to the police and an investigation immediately launched.
Based on information received, an exercise spearheaded by Supt. Robert Phillip, was conducted between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm on Monday, during which officers executed search warrants at the home of two suspects; a 32-year-old and a 24-year-old, both of El Socorro.
The searches resulted in the stolen items being discovered at the homes of the suspects and the men were arrested in connection with the incident.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
