A new medical ward has been created at the St James Medical Complex, which is due to house some patients from the Port of Spain General Hospital (POSGH).

According to a statement from the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA), the former Gerontology ward at the St James Medical Complex was retrofitted by an in-house team to create a new 25-bed medical ward.

The NWRHA said this ward will facilitate the admission of stable patients from the Port of Spain General Hospital (POSGH), thereby allowing further admissions at POSGH through the Accident and Emergency Department.

The contact for this new ward is 285-8991 ext. 6046

The NWRHA said it continues to "robustly identify and retrofit spaces within the NWRHA facilities to accommodate the bed capacity, formerly housed at the Central Block".

The NWRHA said it is committed to the provision of quality health care in a safe and comfortable environment.
