29-yr-old killed by police in Mt Hope
A confrontation with police in Mt Hope on Sunday has left a 29-year-old dead.
The deceased has been identified as Addysinia "Abba" Tafari, from Gordon Street, Mt Hope.
According to police reports, at about 12.35pm on Sunday, officers of the Northern Division were responding to a report of a shooting in the community, when they saw a man acting suspiciously.
On seeing the officers, the man attempted to walk away.
The officers attempted to intercept the man, however, it was said that he allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot at the officers.
The lawmen, fearful for their lives, drew their licensed firearms and turned fire – hitting Tafari.
No officers were said to have been injured in the shoot out.
Tafari was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, however, he succumbed to his injuries.
A black Beretta pistol, which police said belonged to Tafari, was found at the scene.
It is expected to be sent for ballistic testing.
