5-year-old, pregnant woman among those left homeless after fire
Investigators are expected to return to the scene of a fire which has left at least five families homeless, including a five-year-old child and a pregnant woman.
The fire was reported on Friday afternoon at Concerned Citizens Street, California.
Police believe that it originated in an unoccupied house in the area.
At about 5.30pm on Friday, residents of the area observed smoke coming from the house and notified the police and fire services. Residents attempted to form a bucket brigade to stop the fire, but they were unfortunately unsuccessful.
Fire officers arrived on location and were able to contain the blaze. Unfortunately, this was not until the homes of five families had been affected.
Those affected include a pregnant woman, a five-year-old boy, and a 62-year-old man.
Police believe that persons went to the unoccupied house to smoke, as it was said to be often frequented by homeless persons and persons who smoked marijuana.
It is suspected that one of these persons did not properly dispose of a lit item, which led to the fire being started and subsequently spreading.
More on this as it becomes available.
