A 26-year-old man has appeared before a Mayaro Magistrate on charges of possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking.
The accused, Anthony Edwin, appeared before Magistrates’ Court to face the charges of being in possession of 32 kilogrammes of marijuana.
The drugs, according to police, had a total weight of 33 kilogrammes.
Edwin was represented by attorney Shirvani Ramkissoon.
Bail was set in the sum of $500,000 to be approved by a clerk of the peace.
The court also granted Edwin a cash alternative of $150,000.
After further submissions, the matter was adjourned.
According to police, the drugs were found in a grey Mazda-6 motor vehicle at about 9.30am on Saturday.
The vehicle was stopped and searched along the Naparima Mayaro Road, in the vicinity of Cedar Grove Road, and the drugs, which reportedly have a local street estimate of $330,000, was seized in the trunk of the vehicle.
