54 more arrested in 'operation strike back' exercise
Fifty-four persons, a quantity of firearms, ammunition and over $200,000 in cash are currently under lock and key after ‘Operation Strike Back’ exercises were carried out in the Northern and Eastern Divisions over a 24-hour period.
The exercises took place from 3:00 pm on Wednesday to 3:00 pm on Thursday and targeted specific areas in St Joseph, Arouca, Maloney, Mazanilla and Sangre Grande.
Twenty-three persons were held for outstanding warrants, while four priority offenders were detained in the Maloney district, in connection with recent reports of woundings, shootings and murders.
A joint exercise, involving officers attached to the Financial Investigations Bureau (FIB), Fire Service, Bureau of Standards (BOS), Customs and Excise Division and Tax Department, was conducted in the St Joseph district, where a search warrant was executed at a home in Spring Village, Valsayn.
The search resulted in officers seizing $228,153 from a suspect under the Proceeds of Crime Act Chapter 11:27.
The officers proceeded to carry out searches at six businesses in the district for illegal activities and non-compliance with BOS regulations. This led officers to shut down seven slot machines for non-conformity with the BOS. The businesses were subsequently cautioned and investigations are ongoing.
An additional seven persons were arrested in the St Joseph district for possession of narcotics while one JMP 45 sub-machine gun was found concealed in a red Santa Claus hat in a drain along Sagan Drive, Champs Fleurs.
‘Operation Strike Back’ continued in the Eastern Division with 19 arrests of which 10 persons were found to be residing illegally in the country, eight for narcotic possession with one being additionally charged for possession of housebreaking implements and another person for possession of a firearm.
The exercises were coordinated by acting ACP of North East, McDonald Jacob and was supervised by acting Snr Supt of the Northern Division, Michael Daniel and acting Snr Supt, Eastern Division, Garth Nelson.
The exercises also included officers of the Northern and Eastern Division Task Forces, Criminal Investigations Department, Court and Process Branches, Canine Branch and multiple police stations.
