77 yr-old taxi driver to stand trial for child molestation

A 77-year-old taxi driver will stand trial to answer charges of sexual molestation of six- and seven-year-old girls.

According to a report from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Neville Richards, of Sea Lots, was charged with multiple sexual offences against the two girls, who he had been hired to take to school by their parents.

His case was heard by Magistrate Adia Mohammed following the conclusion of a preliminary hearing into the charges which began on July 5, 2016, in the Port of Spain 7th Magistrates’ Court.

Mohammed committed the matter to trial.

Richards was later remanded into custody pending the securing of $150,000 bail with surety.

Richards had been hired as a driver by the parents of the six-year-old and seven-year-old girls to take them to their primary school.

It is alleged the offences against the girls were committed sometime between June 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016.

Richards was charged by WPC Makeda Edwards of the Child Protection Unit, Port of Spain Division, on Monday, July 5, 2016.
