8-year-old girl shot in Laventille
Officers attached to the Port of Spain Division are investigating a report in which an eight-year-old girl was injured in a shooting incident in Laventille earlier this week.
Due to the victim’s age, her name is being withheld from the public.
However, she was said to have sustained a gunshot injury to her buttocks which resulted in medical treatment at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
According to police reports, the incident took place at about 11:20 pm on Monday.
The girl was said to be asleep at her home along Block 8, Laventille when several loud explosions were heard.
The young girl then felt a burning sensation to her lower back.
The young girl’s mother came to check on her after the noise and realised the eight-year-old was bleeding.
She notified the police, and a team of officers from the Inter Agency Task Force, led by Cpl Phillips, responded.
The young girl was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital where she was treated, before being transferred to the Medical Complex in Mt Hope.
She has since been discharged.
More on this as it becomes available.
