Port of Spain police are investigating a report in which an 80-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint.
The victim, who is from Cantaro Village, Santa Cruz, told police that on Friday afternoon he boarded a silver coloured Nissan Laurel taxi at the corner of Independence Square north and Henry Street and requested to be taken to Park Street.
At the time, there were two male occupants – the driver and a man seated in the front passenger seat.
On reaching Park Street, the passenger pointed an object resembling a firearm at the victim and relieved him of the cash he was carrying, which amounted to $1505.
They then ordered the victim out of the car and escaped up Henry Street.
The elderly man made a report to police, and investigations are being spearheaded by PC Dopwell.
More on this as it becomes available.
