'All goat everything' at Ministry's two-day event

Goat milk, cheese, yoghurt, meat and other goat products were the focus of a two-day event held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries.

The Ministry said in a statement shared to its Facebook page, that goat farmers and stakeholders attended the 'GoatFest 2019', held at the Farmers Training Centre in Centeno on Wednesday.

The event was hosted by the Extension Training and Information Division (ETISD) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries (MALF) from October 30-31, 2019.

According to Wilhelmina Kissoonsingh, Director of the ETISD, the main objective of Goat Fest 2019 is to promote goat-farming and all its related enterprise as a viable and profitable business option.

This includes goat cheese, milk, ice cream, yoghurt, meat and other products, which are also being marketed and promoted as part of a healthy diet.

Wednesday's topics included Goat Meat Production, Farmer’s Perspective on the Agricultural Development Bank’s (ADB’s) Process, Farmer Innovation (Forage Harvesting), Silage and Cheese Making.

Day Two of the Goat Fest 2019 will include New ETISD Initiatives, Meat Fabrication, Farmer Innovation, Culinary Goat Preparation, Composting and a live demonstration of Management Techniques, which includes Selection of Animal and Hoof Trimming.

Admission to GoatFest 2019 is free and includes exhibitors and other merchants with items offering wholesale prices on their products.
