14-year-old killed in alleged robbery attempt in St James

Update April 29, 2019: 3:30 pm:

A 14-year-old student of St Anthony's College was killed during an alleged robbery attempt at a St James liquor store on Monday - another man was listed as critically injured at hospital. 

According to reports, the boy, identified as Luke Williams, was shot along with another man during the attempted robbery, which took place around 8:20 am Monday along Bournes Road, St James. 

According to police reports, two men entered the store and announced a hold-up - one of the men was said to be armed. 

However, police were told that during the robbery that a businessman at the store was able to secure his licensed firearm.

The businessman said he was fearful for his life and defended himself and others in the supermarket by shooting at the assailants. 

The boy allegedly died inside the establishment, while the other man collapsed outside of the building. 

Investigations are continuing.

Two men, who allegedly came to rob a liquor store were allegedly shot by a business owner in St James.

The deceased were yet to be identified up to Monday morning.

The incident took place around 8.20 am Monday at Singh’s Liquor Mart along Bournes Road, St James.

Police were told that two men entered the store and announced a hold-up.

One of the men was allegedly armed with a firearm.

However, police were told that during the robbery, a businessman at the store was able to secure his licensed firearm. The man said he was fearful for his life and defended himself and others in the supermarket by shooting at the assailants. 

The two “would-be robbers” were both shot.

Western Division police officers under the supervision of Snr Sup Pragg were at the scene up to Monday morning.
