Alleged teen bandit shot dead by off-duty cop

A 19-year-old man is dead after he allegedly attempted to rob and kill the nephew of Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams in Arima on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Mikhail Coker of Maturita Road, Arima.

According to reports, around 9.30 pm that night Coker approached PC Kern Williams, as the officer was parked in his car along the Maturita Extension Road, and announced a hold-up.

Coker allegedly pointed a gun at the off-duty officer and demanded he hand over his mobile phone and wallet.

Police say that Williams complied but Coker demanded more money.

He shot at the officer, grazing his temple, but Williams drew his firearm and returned fire, hitting Coker in the upper body.

The injured officer drove himself to the Arima Health Facility and was later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

When officers returned to the scene of the crime, the weapon allegedly used by Coker could not be located.
