Arima Business Assoc proposes Christmas Eve deadline for old $100s

The Arima Business Association is proposing December 24 as the deadline for accepting the old $100 bill.

In a statement, the group said it has come to its attention that some banks may take up to three working/banking days to accept night deposits under normal circumstances.

The Association said the extra cut-off date has been suggested to accommodate the present chaos occurring at banks and to facilitate any potential delays in processing night deposits as a result of the chaos; bearing in the mind that December 25 and December 26 are public holidays.

“Our rationale is one that allows the consumer as much time allowed to use the old dollar to do their Christmas shopping while safe guarding the business community from running the risk of being in possession of the bills past the statutory deadline date of 31 December at midnight,” it added.
