Arima council condemns murders of teen, caretaker
The Arima Borough Council has strongly condemned the murder of a teenager and his 56-year-old caretaker.
The council said it was saddened by the heinous murder of Rose Mohammed and Videsh Subar in Malabar , describing it as a senseless act against a respected elder and a child.
Arima Mayor Lisa Morris-Julian said the act is especially troubling at a time when the council’s priority is placed on the protection of women and children in the borough.
“This horrendous deed has horribly disrupted the lives of an entire community and the council wishes to extend condolences to all affected ones,” she said.
She said Mohammed was well known for her kindness and love for children, and described the teen's death as a "horrible killing" she wish could be erased.
The Mayor visited the family and pledged the council’s support and assistance.
Morris-Julian said the entire community stands behind the families affected by the murders and would assist in any way it can.
"We sincerely hope that this tragedy will bring our communities even closer together," she said.
The council is urging the community and, by extension the nation, to be their neighbour’s keeper to prevent a recurrence of crimes such as these.
