Arima couple killed in accident, 17-yr-old survives
A 17-year-old boy is the only survivor of a road traffic accident on Saturday evening in which a vehicle plunged over 200 feet off the Blanchisseuse/Arima Road.
The deceased have been identified as 51-year-old Daniel Pinto and 32-year-old Evangeline Joseph.
Both victims are said to be from Calvary Hill, Arima.
According to police reports, at about 6:00 pm on Saturday, the couple along with the 17-year-old relative, was in a vehicle heading towards the Blanchisseuse area, when for reasons unknown, the 51-year-old man lost control of the car which then drove off the cliff, plummeting more than 200 feet before coming to a violent stop.
The police and fire services were notified, however, by the time the officials arrived on scene and were able to get to the vehicle, Pinto and Joseph had both succumbed to their injuries.
The 17-year-old teenager is said to be warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in a serious but stable condition.
This is one of several accidents in which several people were killed in unrelated incidents: On Sunday morning a Tacarigua woman was killed after a collision with an off-duty police officer, while in another incident a Princes Town man was killed after he lost control of his vehicle along the M2 Ring Road in Debe.
More on this as it becomes available.
