Arima man shot dead

A 25-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Arima on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Brandon Atkins.

From initial information, around 1.22 pm, residents of Printeryville Road, Arima heard loud explosions.

Upon investigating, they observed a white vehicle with two occupants speeding away from the scene.

Atkins' bullet-riddled body was found along the roadway.

The police were notified and a team of officers from the Northern Division and the Homicide Bureau, under the supervisions of Snr Sup David, responded.

Atkins, Loop News was told, was well known to the police, because he was recently fined an estimated $16,000 in April for damaging a marked police vehicle.

He was arrested after he threw stones behind the police car during an operation and charged with malicious damage to a marked police vehicle, obscene language, resisting arrest and throwing missiles.

He appeared before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in April where he pleaded guilty to the offences and was fined.

Investigations are continuing.
