Arima Mayor offers well wishes to First Peoples on one off holiday

Arima Mayor Lisa Morris-Julian and the Arima Borough Council have extended warm greetings to the First Peoples as T&T celebrates the one off holiday on Friday.

In a statement, Morris-Julian said the council intends to use today to reflect and give thanks for the sacrifices of chief, Hyarima, and to become fully immersed in the festivities of the First Peoples. 

The council said it feels sheer joy that the contribution of our First Peoples have been nationally recognized on this, the 17th First Peoples Heritage Week. 

It also noted that the First Peoples have made an everlasting indent on our history. 

The council also expressed appreciation to the First Peoples who have remained such a strong element of its unique culture and traditions. It said it continues to support all efforts to record and preserve the First Peoples heritage through the work of the Santa Rosa First Peoples Community and others.
