Arima shopkeeper critical after robbery

An Arima man was warded in a critical condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex after he was shot during a robbery at his home on Tuesday morning.

The victim is said to be a 38-year-old man from Jacob’s Hill, Wallerfield.

Due to the stage of inquiries, his identity was not released up to Tuesday afternoon.

According to police reports, the man was at his home, from which he also operates a minimart, when at about 6:00 am on Tuesday morning he was accosted by two armed men.

The men proceeded to rob the businessman from items on his person as well as the store.

However, there was said to be a confrontation during which the weapon went off, hitting the businessman once in his upper body.

The assailants fled the scene on foot.

The police and emergency health services were notified and the wounded man was rushed for medical treatment.

Up to midday Tuesday he was said to still be in a critical condition.
