Earlier today, police responded to an incident Piarco International Airport's cargo compound where armed men were said to have robbed a cargo cart of a quantity of cash on Wednesday.

According to eyewitness reports, three men, who wore camouflage uniforms resembling that of regiment officers and face masks entered the compound in a vehicle.

When the cargo cart arrived, the men, armed with what appeared to be high-powered weapons, reportedly exited the vehicle, forced agents to lie on the ground and robbed the cart containing the cash.

The source said no security agents were visible at the entrance to the cargo compound at the time and that the vehicle had been waiting for some time before the cargo cart arrived.

The amount of cash is yet to be confirmed, but initial reports indicate the sum to be $5 million bound for Tobago.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has launched an investigation into the incident.

The AATT says the Airports Authority Security Force is working with the Police Service to ensure the safety and security of the airport estates.
