Arson suspected after Siparia house destroyed by fire

The destruction of a house in Siparia by fire is engaging the attention of police.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

However, police noted that the fire took place in a residential community and if not for the swift work of fire officers, under the supervision of FSO Rodriguez, the situation could have been disastrous.

PC Gonzales has been appointed to investigate the matter.

Police officers were told around 3.40 am on Monday, they received a report of a fire along Balli Hosein Trace, Siparia.

A team of officers, including PC Gonzales and PC Laptiste, went out on inquiries.

They were told neighbours heard a loud noise, following which they observed a house which had been abandoned, on fire. Emergency health services were notified.

After the fire was contained, officials noted that the house did not have electricity or water connections.

Further markings were also observed, which gave investigators the impression that the fire may have been deliberately set, and as a result, crime scene investigators were called out.

The scene was photographed and contained.

More on this as it becomes available.
