Arson suspected as Princes Town home goes up in flames

Police suspect arson in the destruction of a four-bedroom home along Cemetery Street, St Croix, Princes Town.

The home, which belongs to a family of five, was destroyed on Friday afternoon.

Smoke was seen coming from the house around 3 pm that day.

Neighbours notified fire services and attempted to form a bucket brigade to extinguish the fire, but the wooden structure was quickly destroyed.

The family, which includes three children aged 15, 12, and seven, were not at home at the time.

Losses from the blaze were said to be “complete” with initial estimates of over $300,000 worth of items destroyed in the fire.

Police were told that a man who had threatened the family in the past was seen in the area shortly before the fire begun.

Princes Town police are continuing inquiries.
