ASTT calls for Ministers' intervention after farmers' pumps seized
Created : 15 May 2019
The Agricultural Society (ASTT) is pleading for the intervention of Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat following the seizure of water pumps belonging to farmers in Aranguez by Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) police.
The farmers have since filed legal action against the Authority as they say that their production is being affected by the actions of the WASA personnel.
The ASTT has written to both Public Utilities Minister Robert Le Hunte and Minister Rambharat requesting an urgent meeting to discuss the way forward for WASA and agriculture as well as a grace period of 30 days for compliance with abstraction permits.
Le Hunte has maintained that the officers acted in accordance with the law.
The ASTT is calling for the return of the water pumps to the farmers and is hopeful for an amicable resolution in the matter.
