Effective June 1, Dr. Philip Mshelbila will become the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LNG producer Atlantic.

Dr. Mshelbila, formerly of Shell, is a global business leader with over 20 years of oil & gas experience in board-level governance, stakeholder management, commercial operations, project management and performance delivery in both operated and non-operated joint ventures.

Dr. Mshelbila is from Nigeria, and prior to his secondment to Atlantic, held the role of General Manager Gas, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Nigeria.  He has also held a number of senior regional leadership positions in overseeing 36 countries. His other roles have included Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas Ltd.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, a Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Medicine from the University of Aberdeen Medical School, Scotland as well as a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the IESE Business School, the University of Navarra, Barcelona, Spain.

According to the company, he has a passion for motivating people to perform at their best to deliver excellent business performance.

“I am excited to lead a truly Trinbagonian company that is one of the best-performing LNG companies in the world,” said Dr. Mshelbila.

The incumbent CEO, Nigel Darlow, has been at the helm since 2011 and during his tenure, has strengthened Atlantic’s position as a leading global LNG business, with his commitment and drive for excellence. Before returning to the United Kingdom in July, Nigel will remain in the country to support the transition of the incoming CEO.

“Atlantic is one of the best and most competitive LNG production businesses globally. It has been a real privilege to serve as Atlantic CEO,” said Darlow. He added, “Both Atlantic and Trinidad and Tobago have provided a wonderful experience for me and my family for over 7 years and we are truly grateful for the time we have spent here.”

In a release, Atlantic said it is “extremely thankful for having had the benefit of Darlow’s expertise and for his invaluable contribution to the organisation.”
