Australian man dead after falling overboard Royal Caribbean cruise
An Australian entrepreneur is dead after falling overboard a Royal Caribbean cruise headed to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Jonathan Pfahl, 37, drowned on Wednesday after falling from the Symphony of the Seas as the ship made its way from St Kitts to St Thomas.
Pfahl was celebrating his wife's birthday with their two children at the time of his death. It is unclear how he fell overboard.
“Upon the initial report that an Australian adult male had gone overboard, our ship immediately turned, launched a rescue boat, and conducted a full-scale search,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement. “We are working closely with authorities and will continue to assist in their investigation.”
The cruise company added, “our hearts go out to the family and loved ones for their loss, and our care team is providing support and assistance during this difficult time.”
The ship was on a seven-day cruise through the eastern Caribbean and was due to return to Miami, Florida on Saturday. The man’s body will remain on the ship until it returns to Miami.
Pfahl founded the British-based company Rockstar Group, which mentors entrepreneurs and invests in businesses.
