Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC) Chairman Paul Leacock has denied any reports of deaths in the Greenvale Park community following the severe floods which impacted the area Friday into Saturday morning.

Posts circulating on social media and via WhatsApp asserted that a number of people had died in the floods, but Leacock called the reports “rubbish”.

Speaking to LoopTT the Chairman said that they have received no confirmation of any deaths at this time.

Leacock said he was in the Greenvale area up until 5:30 am on Saturday and had seen no evidence of anyone passing away.

Members of the Regional Corporation are headed into a meeting to continue to develop plans to evacuate and assist persons in need following heavy torrential downpours over the past three days.

Prime Minister Keith Rowley, who visited the Greenvale area on Saturday morning also said in an update to Facebook at 8:23 am on Saturday that he had received no reports of casualties from the disaster.

Minister of National Security and Communications Stuart Young said in a press conference held on Saturday morning, that up 10:50 am, they had received no confirmation of fatalities.

The inclement weather is forecast to continue until Sunday.
