An autopsy has confirmed that elderly Tobago couple, 69-year-old John Mills, and common-law wife Eulyn John, were both strangled to death.

The autopsy was performed on Monday at the Scarborough Mortuary by Dr Eastlyn McDonald Burris.

It revealed that the couple died from ligature strangulation, and some sort of cord or wire was used to effect the same.

Mills was also stabbed to his upper body.

The couple was found dead in the bedroom of their Buccoo New Road home around 11.30 am last Thursday (May 2, 2019).

They were bound and gagged.

Police officers were told that Mills had just celebrated his birthday and had friends over on Wednesday night.

Mills was a friend and former classmate of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who mourned their deaths in a post to his Facebook page.

Dr Rowley lamented the rise in crime throughout the country.

"John and I grew up together in poverty, with pride, but violence and criminality were never part of our life," he said.

These two incidents have pushed Tobago’s murder toll up to five for 2019.

Funeral services are currently being finalised.

More on this as it becomes available.
