Baby dies at daycare; autopsy ordered
An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the death of a six-month-old baby.
From initial information, the baby girl was found unconscious at a daycare centre, shortly after she had been fed and placed to sleep.
Police were told that when the child was checked on after being put to sleep, she was found to be unresponsive.
The paramedics were notified and the six-month-old was rushed to the Barataria Health Centre.
Unfortunately, she was declared dead.
Hospital officials then reacted in accordance with policy and notified the police and officers of the North Eastern Division responded.
The body was viewed by a district medical officer, and police were told foul play was not suspected from initial examination, however, an autopsy was expected to be performed on Friday at the Forensic Science Center in St James to confirm this.
It was suspected that the child may have choked after being fed but this is subject to confirmation following an autopsy report.
All relevant parties were notified and are aiding with inquiries.
More on this as it becomes available.
