Baby girl dies after truck accident
A two-year-old girl has succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a pick-up truck earlier this month.
Two-year-old Amara Reason remained hospitalised in critical condition for two days after the tragic accident.
She was hit by a pick-up truck around 10:15 am on Saturday, July 6, 2019, along La Retreat Road, Arima.
Reports say the driver observed a group of pedestrians standing on the pavement. He then saw a child leave the group and run onto the roadway
The driver told police he hit the brakes and veered to the right to avoid a collision, however, he still hit the child. The victim was taken to the Arima Health Facility with her mother and was attended to and transferred to Mt Hope Hospital.
The child suffered haemorrhaging to her brain, a broken collar bone, two fractures of her vertebral column, two lacerations to her liver and multiple abrasions to the body.
She died around 3:00 am on Tuesday morning.
More on this as it becomes available.
Parents have been urged to be vigilant following several deaths and injuries involving young children within the past weeks:
