Bail for man, 69, charged with sexually penetrating child

A 69-year-old man was granted $100,000 bail with surety when he appeared before a Mayaro Magistrate on Thursday, charged with three counts of sexual penetration of a child. This is in breach of section 18 of the Children’s Act 46:01.

The suspect was nabbed in an intelligence-led exercise by officers of the Eastern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) on Tuesday.

This marks 18 people charged for sexual penetration of a child for 2020. Currently, three other suspects are in custody for similar matters where inquiries are ongoing.

The investigation was spearheaded by acting W/Superintendent George; W/Assistant Superintendent of Police Guy-Alleyne; acting ASP Sookdeo and was supervised by acting Insp Baptiste. Chargers were laid by WPC Donna Charles.

The Child Protection Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service reassures of its commitment to protecting the nation’s children and urges citizens to report all cases of child abuse.
