Band leader among five arrested for DUI

Five people, including a well-known band leader and local entertainer, were held on Friday night for driving under the influence.

The five were held by officers of the Port of Spain Division during an exercise which began at 8 pm on Friday and ended at 1 am on Saturday.

The exercise was supervised by ACP Williams, and overseen by Snr Sup Ramdeen, Sup Simon, Sup Rampath, ASP Sooker, Inspector Commissiong, Sgt Bharath, and others.

During the exercise, the officers conducted several road stops and breathalyser tests at various points throughout Woodbrook and the capital city.

Out of the dozens tested, five people failed.

The highest reading they got was 79 microgrammes per 1000Ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

As a result, the five, who are between the ages of 34 and 51, were charged.

They are all expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Monday.

More on this as it becomes available.
