Bandit apologises for robbery, says he was trying to feed his family

A bandit apologised to a Couva family of six after robbing them, claiming he only did it so he could put food on his family's table.

The robbery took place around 9:35pm on Sunday at a house along Phase One, Exchange Lots, Couva.

Two armed men stormed the home of a 29-year-old woman, her five-year-old son and her parents, who were being visited by two other relatives.

The men announced a hold up, and forced everyone to lie down on the ground.

During the ordeal, one of the suspects pointed his gun at the five-year-old boy.

The assailants made off with approximately $70,000, which a member of the family recently withdrew from a bank.

The suspects also stole a quantity of electronic items, jewellery, and the keys to the family's Toyota Hilux Vigo.

However, as they were making their escape, the man who pointed the weapon at the child reportedly apologised to the boy and his family.

Police have been given descriptions of the suspects, and a search is currently underway.
