Bandit shot during robbery attempt
Two men, aged 27 and 33, were held after they attempted to break into the TCL Compound in Claxton Bay Tuesday morning.
However, the swift responses of security guards who were patrolling the compound prevented the robbery.
According to police reports, around 12.30 am on Tuesday, the guards were conducting patrols on the TCL Compound off the Southern Main Road when they heard a commotion.
The officers went to investigate and observed two men walking on the premises.
One of the men was seen carrying what appeared to be a firearm.
The officers drew their licensed weapons and called on the suspects to surrender.
The assailants allegedly turned around, and the armed man pointed the weapon at the officer.
The other assailant immediately ran.
One of the guards, fearful for his life and the lives of his colleagues, opened fire on the armed man.
During the gunfire, the armed assailant attempted to flee.
The guards notified the police and conducted a search of the compound for the assailants.
One of the men, a 27-year-old, was found in a room.
He was bleeding from a gunshot injury to his lower back.
The injured man was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital for further treatment.
The second suspect was held a short distance away from the scene.
He is currently aiding with inquiries.
