Baptist groups to receive monies next week
Monies for Baptist groups that applied for funding for the observance of the Spiritual Shouter Baptist Liberation Day will be disbursed next week.
That is the assurance of Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of the Arts, Culture and Community Affairs.
Responding to claims from Baptist Archbishop Barbara Gray-Burke that they did not receive a red cent from the Government this year, the Minister said all groups were notified that payment will be made next week.
"The receipt of government funding is a function of the time-frame in which the group applies and the availability of funding. We have a two month lead time which most groups do not stick to. Applicants like Barbara Gray-Burke who receive government funding annually, without fail, are well acquainted with the system, and the fact that funding may be received after the event based on those two factors," she told Loop.
The minister said, as indicated in the Parliament on March 28, funding has been approved for Gray-Burke and other applicants for the Shouter Baptist holiday and will be disbursed next week.
"Efforts were made to contact all groups to indicate this," she said.
