Beetham teenager shot 10 times by police; relatives claim execution

Relatives of 19-year-old Akiel Thomas are claiming he was executed.

Thomas was shot 10 times by police in Beetham on Tuesday morning.

An autopsy conducted by Dr. Eastyln McDonald Burris at the Forensic Science Centre on Wednesday revealed that he was struck in his hand, back, chest and abdomen.

According to reports, officers were conducting an exercise in Hell Yard, Beetham around 6 am on Tuesday morning, when they observed Thomas with a firearm.

Officers claim Thomas pointed the firearm in their direction, forcing them to return fire.

However, relatives claim Thomas was unarmed.

Following the killing, upset residents gathered along the Beetham Highway. 

Heavy police presence in the area was maintained throughout the day and no incidents were reported.
