Several officers at the Besson Street Police Station were contacted yesterday and told they would have to go on a temporary period of self-isolation, after one of their colleagues began displaying flu-like symptoms.

The officer, who is attached to the Port of Spain Gender-Based Violence Unit, reported feeling unwell while on duty. In keeping with established protocols, medical professionals were called in and the sick officer was taken for treatment and isolation. He was administered a COVID-19 test; the results are still pending.

If positive, this would be the second officer at that station who would have tested positive in less than a week.

Last Thursday, the station had to be closed down after an officer who works from the building tested positive. The officer was immediately taken into quarantine and is at the Couva Health Facility undergoing treatment. He is said to be recovering well.
