Biche man on arson, assault charges granted bail
A 35-year-old man has been placed on $150,000 bail after he appeared before a Mayaro Magistrate on charges of assault against a woman and a child, as well as arson.
Romario Parris, of St Ann's Road, Biche, appeared before Magistrate Nizam Khan on Tuesday.
He faced four charges including assault by beating, assault by threat, throwing missiles at the relatives (namely bottles), and arson.
The charges stemmed from an incident which allegedly took place on August 14.
Officers of the Mayaro Police Station responded to a report of a disturbance.
Led by PC Jaikaran, they arrived at the scene and observed a house ablaze. While interviewing the victim, the lawmen allegedly spotted Parris exiting the house.
The man was taken into police custody, and on Monday, he was charged.
Parris was represented by attorney Jai Nanan.
Sgt Rudranath Ramdhan represented the State in this matter as the police prosecutor.
PC Jaikaran was the complainant (charging officer).
After the charges were read, bail was set on the condition that here be absolutely no contact between Parris and the alleged victims.
The matter was adjourned to September 14.
