Body found in Belmont

Police rushed to the scene in Belmont on Monday morning, after receiving reports that a body was found.

Police were at the scene up to Monday morning around 9.00 am, however, the deceased had not been identified up to that time.

According to police reports, around 1.00 am Monday morning, residents of McKai Lands heard several loud explosions, and upon investigating, they reportedly saw a man running into the bushes off the roadway.

Around 6.00 am Monday, persons did further inquiries and found the body lying face down in some bushes off the road.

They notified the police and officers from the Port of Spain Division and the Homicide Bureau rushed to the scene.

Police said the body bore marks of violence, and a bloodied stone was found nearby. It is suspected the victim may have been beaten to death.

A vehicle was also found abandoned, idling along the Lady Young Road and is suspected to be linked to the incident.
