Body found in Cedros mangrove identified as crab catcher

The body of a man which was found in a mangrove in Cedros last month has been identified as 55-year-old Lackpath Soomai.

Soomai, police said, was a crab catcher and hunter who lived in Icacos.

His body was identified via his fingerprints, which revealed that Soomai had been detained previously for traffic offences.

His relatives have since been contacted.

Soomai’s body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition at the mangroves in Cedros on January 27.

An autopsy is expected to be performed tomorrow at the Forensic Science Center in St James to confirm the cause of death.
